I was thinking about ways that I could do something good (or at least raise money for people doing something good) while doing one of my favorite hobbies — tabletop roleplaying games, like Dungeons & Dragons.
And that’s when it hit me. I’ve been running games — both one-shots and filling a table for a campaign style game — over at StartPlayingGames for a while. Each game does have a cost, but the gamemaster does have the ability to discount games for individuals.
So here’s the deal: From at least now until the election, I’ll be setting up "Game and Give" Dungeons & Dragons 5e (or 2014 rules) one-shots on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm. (This weekend’s are already posted.)
The price per person is $25 — but show me the receipt and I will discount your price by the amount of donation you make to one of several organizations that day as a gesture of my independent appreciation of your donation.
The groups are: The Trevor Project, HRC, ACLU, ActBlue, MoveOn, Swing Left, or the Harris/Walz Campaign.
It’s important to note (there’s a full explanation at the Black Talons website) that anyone is welcome to just pay the normal price and play, and that the adventures are not going to be politically themed. If anything, we’ll avoid talking about real-world politics as much as possible.
If you’ve been looking for a reason to try fantasy roleplaying but were going to donate anyway, or that little extra reason to donate when you wanted to play, this is a convenient way to do both.
You can find the games at the Black Talons website or on my GM page as I add them.
