I have something of a long and complicated history with the tarot. Not even counting delightful fun decks like "The Zombie Tarot", I’ve found tarot to be a useful way of viewing things from a different point of view.
I’m a spooky agnostic – meaning that I tend to be a bit skeptical, but not brazenly so. I tend to view the tarot as a non-mystical way of reframing a problem or situation. Sometimes the cards suggest a solution, or point out a hard-to-swallow truth. Is it spiritual? Occult? I have no idea, but I don’t think it’s needed in order to benefit from a reading.
Luckily, that’s also the view of the creator of the Resonator Voyant Tarot.
Though steeped in spirituality, the reasons for doing a tarot reading need not be mystical as it can be a source of creativity and help with imaginative problem solving.
Especially when you’re using something as gorgeous and randomly created as this (optionally self-hosted) program.
The actual focus of the Resonator Voyant Tarot is an experiment in creating generated tarot cards. It just happens to be the most effective, straightforward, and spookily good tarot program I’ve ever run across.
Whether you self-host or use the version at https://abetusk.github.io/ResonatorVoyantTarot/, the only real "option" is the ability to provide a seed question for the deck’s generation. ("Though your question is only local to your browser, it’s encouraged to not type anything too sensitive," you are reminded by the app.)
At that point, it will say that it’s generating the deck. BE PATIENT. You will get a traditional "celtic cross" layout. Alongside the generated cards is a short interpretation (including "light" and "dark", e.g. "upright" and "reversed", interpretations). These short interpretations are excellently worded and put together in such a way that the interpretation seems to just jump out at you.
At least, that’s my experience. At the very least, this is a nice proof-of-concept that can be self-hosted, generates some really gorgeous cards, and perhaps will give you some insight into the problems facing you.
