And We’ll Look Down, And We’ll Whisper

The Journal, September 21 2020

Forest hills burning this morning, sky color of burst stomach. This world is afraid of us. We have seen its true face.

The rivers are extended gutters and the gutters are full of trash and when the waters turn plastic, we’ll all drown.

The accumulated filth of all their greed and murder will foam up about their waists and all the CEOs and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"…

…and we’ll look down, and whisper "We tried."

They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed the footsteps of good people, like my father, or President Obama. Decent men, who believed in a day’s work for a day’s pay.

Instead, they followed the droppings of bankers and lobbyists and didn’t realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late.

Don’t tell me they didn’t have a choice.

Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody hell, and those colluders and schemers and bald liars…

…and all of a sudden they can’t think of a truth to say.
