Improve Your Minecraft With These Texture Packs

I like Minecraft. I especially like “vanilla plus” Minecraft – where there’s little tweaks to remove some annoyances and present some small enhancements. I even made up an entire Technic modpack that reflects that idea. I’ve also usually played on PCs that aren’t “gaming” computers, so keeping optimizations in mind has also been a significant focus of mine. (There’s even a low-end modpack I made as well.)

But what if you don’t want to deal with modpacks (or use other ones)? Resource packs can do a lot, and are really easy to install. There’s several great resource packs that do a lot to tweak the experience, and I want to highlight a few here. (You will probably have to use Optifine to get the best – or sometimes any – results.)

Glass Doors does exactly what it says on the tin: It replaces the default doors with ones with glass in them.

Jerm’s Better Leaves Add-on can be used with any texture/resource pack. It does a lot to make the “fancy” leaves actually look fancy…

Round Trees is quite frankly impressive as hell; it creates a huge atmospheric change with just a resource pack.

Pixel Reality – Luminance provides realistic lighting with vanilla textures or any other pack, a perfect alternative to shaders if your machine just can’t handle them!

And then last – but definitely not least – there’s Overlay Textures. It takes “connected textures” to a whole new level. It’s easiest to just show the results:

It also means that your stone brick walls can suddenly get a lot more texture to them:

As can your grass areas. There are some buggy parts to it – for example, you can see where concrete isn’t included in the screens below – but even with its relatively few bugs, it makes the world a lot more organic.

If you like any of these, give them a try on your singleplayer instance, or come join us at MyMinecraft to have a nice survival multiplayer experience!
