Recommendation: A Powerful, Inexpensive, Quiet USB-Powered Fan

Sick of the heat? Want a small, inexpensive, quiet, USB powered fan that packs a heck of a punch?

This is that fan.

It’s called the "SLENPET USB Desk Fan 6 inch" and a bunch of SEO-optimized word salad after that. It’s (currently) $20 from Amazon, and I’ve bought several.

The size is large enough to actually move air around (and the motor can go fast at top speed), but manages to stay pretty quiet. The metal base is solid and keeps it from rattling against whatever it’s sitting on. The shape of the base is also great for wedging it into odd places.

Because it’s USB powered, even a small portable battery will get you a lot of cooling on the go.

There are only two (small) downsides to these fans. The front cover is not jostle-friendly; it’ll pop off easily but is a pain to get back on. The second is that if it’s disconnected from power, it does not turn back on by itself when it gets reconnected to power.

I’ve toted these things across a couple of states, used them in hotel rooms, friend’s and amour’s houses, and in my own place as well.

If you’re looking for a low-power, low-cost way to help cool off, I recommend these fans.
