Enough is fucking enough.
Gun “rights” advocates have directly and explicitly led to our children, friends, and families dying in gun violence.
And the rest of us keep letting them get away with it.
I want to say “we’re better than this”, but we are clearly fucking not better than that.
It took a fucking worldwide pandemic and widespread shutdowns to slow the shootings in the United States.
It’s useful – when crafting policy and how it is enforced – to make sure you’re measuring and evaluating the right thing. It’s been difficult, largely because the NRA has actively worked to suppress accurate information on gun violence.
That is no excuse for inaction.
But we’ve known – pretty conclusively – that the “good guy with a gun” myth (which despite its “roots” in the Wild West, was a myth then too) is total and complete bullshit. Enough so that this clip from 2015 which pretty thoroughly puts it to bed is still completely relevant six years later.
What is completely obvious – and has been for a long fucking time – is that the barely enforced and defanged gun control laws aren’t strong enough or enforced well enough.
Whether through “thoughts and prayers” or gun idolaters derailing gun control debates through handwringing about the definition of an “assault rifle” or saying we shouldn’t “make it political”, it is absolutely clear:
Gun cultists have directly and explicitly led to our children, friends, and families dying in gun violence.
And the rest of us keep letting them get away with it.
We can measure the details later. We can figure out if one course of action is marginally better than another later. We can figure out exactly what makes something an “assault rifle” instead of a “rifle” later.

You slaughtered My children and offered them up to worthless idols, forcing them to pass through the hideousness of the fire.”

Right now, it’s time to for each and every one of us to call them on the memes, bullshit “arguments”, alternative facts, and outright lies that prop up thier evil idol.
It’s time to finally quit letting these assholes keep sacrificing our friends, our neighbors, and our fucking children to their idolatrous god of firearms.

The student’s text are absolutely heartbreaking. I read recently about decline in interest in more gun control legislation. It’s as if we forget the value of a child. But also, the decline may in part be owed to what you discussed in your recent post about the importance of meanigfulness and accurate focusing of regulations. We need to learn more about this recent horror and we need serious study of the gun disease in this country.
