This is simple, folks.
The Confederacy was about slavery.
Oh, it was about economics? Yeah, the economics of owning slaves.
The “Stars and Bars” is about heritage?
Yeah, the heritage of oppressing people of color. It wasn’t really used until – whoops – the Civil Rights movement was getting going. It’s still associated with ignorance about Southern history and racial intolerance.
And it’s not even the right damn flag. You’d think if it was about history and heritage you’d get the right flag.
So let’s stop pretending that “neo-Confederate” is something civilized. They – like this VA Senate nominee – are racists, and proud of it.
Your silence gives them strength.
