Hi. I read some ‘journalistic’ responses to the above mentioned court decision, and then I just needed to find something affirming of my feelings. Thank you for your effective blending of anger and humor. Writers supportive of the decision frame this a protecting the free speech of faculty in their teaching and research. I am not convinced that how one addresses a student is genuinely a part of ‘teaching’. The university nor the student objected to content of the course. Seems like whenever I see conservative claims of persecution, it somehow comes down to their right to discriminate, their right to have the world as they wish it to be, despite reality. I work at a university. We are sincerely striving to create a culture of equity and safety at our institution. I really hope that we do not have instructors at my school who cannot find the decency to treat people as they wish to be treated. I also wonder why respect is not valued highly in that f***er’s religious beliefs.
