Have a “Blessed” Day

I am – perhaps irrationally – annoyed by “Have a blessed day”.

Here’s the thing – I totally get how it’s supposed to be the functional equivalent of “Have a good day!” or “Have a nice day!”.

Except… well, it isn’t. Not at all.

It’s a theologically specific blessing, full of hubris.

Not only are the people wishing me this “blessed” day full of the hubris of assuming that I must worship the same as they do – or at all – but they’re assuming that I’m okay with their idea of the Divine bothering to pay attention to me.

This is literally the sort of thing I’m talking about with what your Sociology class was trying to teach you.

So maybe these images are worth spreading among the “devout” – because they might not know what they’re really wishing for.

Because, you should always remember: Specify which “lord” is doing the blessing.
