The way to celebrate mothers in a world of breeders

Are you a mother?

No, I don’t mean “have you born a child”. That’s a completely different question.

Because there’s the biological process of being an egg donor, or a womb renter. Those things are mechanical. They just happen, and have nothing to do with being a parent.

You can be unable to have children and be a mother.

Your child can share no DNA with you, and you’re still a mother.

You might have born several children and yet never been a parent to any of them.

We fetishize biological parenting, but despite its importance, that’s not the real process of being a parent.

Let us today celebrate the real mothers, the ones that cared for a child (regardless of DNA and biology), and let us discard those who were nothing more than a vessel for biological processes.
