Your Ears Need This – “On” and “Come to Daddy”

hearthisIt’s not all about the new stuff – it’s also worth going back to music you may have forgotten about or missed. For example, Aphex Twin.

Aphex Twin (or The Aphex Twin, otherwise known as Richard D. James) has done a lot of groundbreaking electronic music (and funky things with embedding images in music). There’s a huge variety in his music – which is demonstrated between these two tracks. Both of which I really like – but in extremely different ways.

“On” is a light, cheerful song. It’s a great way to start your day – in fact, it was part of my ritual for waking up for quite some time. The slow melodic build is reminiscent of the best bits of Bolero, but in a more peaceful way (with a bit of found sound thrown in for good measure).

“Come to Daddy”, on the other hand, is a wonderfully evil bit of music that really belongs in a horror movie. Which is why this video kind of fits perfectly with it. SFW, but you probably don’t want to watch it at work. Also recommended: Don’t watch alone in the middle of the night.
